I read this book as a child and loved the story---it left me sobbing at the end. A boy and his 2 dogs, they roamed the dark hills and river bottoms of Cherokee country and Billy trained them to be the finest hunting team in the valley. Victory was coming to them but sadness waited, too.

I'm going to try and read it again before I send it to kz4ufo's November Garden Release.

I first read this book when I was 11 years old. Something about this story left an indelible mark in my memory. I haven't seen this book in years until I saw it at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens Annual Garden Festival. I decided to pick it up and give it another read.
