This is a mammoth gangster saga in the tradition of The Godfather. It spans 70 years, ranges from the Lower East Side to Las Vegas, Cuba, and Israel, and includes cameo appearances by such prominent figures as Golda Meir, Fidel Castro, and Robert Kennedy. It's the story of Leo Gorodestsky and his rise from diminutive teenage lookout for an illegal crap game to bootlegger to the financial genius behind the Syndicate.
My girlfreind found this book at a hostel in Gdansk poland and then took it all the way to craotia, where I picked it up and began reading the great and fascinating life of a fictional jewish ganster. The story captivated me by its shere trutht into the lives of bootlegging, and gambling. Good read. It has now made it all the way to flagstaff AZ, USA and will be left at a hostel in town to continue it journey.
