Journal Entry 4 by BlueAmazon from Gaithersburg, Maryland USA on Friday, August 5, 2005
a lovely little story, I thought, quite engaging.

4 teen best friends share a pair of pants over a summer, a pair of pants that magically fits them all [each so different] perfectly and makes them more beautiful and confident than they've been before.

Carmen is off to visit her father in S. Carolina at his bachelor apartment but arrives to find that he has moved in with a fiancee and her children.

Lena is off to Greece for the summer to visit grandparents.

Bridget - Bee - goes to Baja, California to a girls' sports camp where she falls for a counselor.

Tibby is left behind at a dreadful job at Wallman's drugs, only to be befriended by a bratty 12 year old.

Lena's story spoke the least to me - she's incredibly beautiful but quite weak. The other 3 all had their own charm and angst and teenagerness. Quite a lovely book though - I wonder what the next ones are like?

Ooohhh! What a fabulous fabulous fabulous surprise. I actually saw this movie with a few friends when it first came out... I will add it to Mt. TBR and should get to it this Winter!

FROM THE PUBLISHER
Carmen got the jeans at a thrift shop. They didn't look all that great: they were worn, dirty, and speckled with bleach. On the night before she and her friends part for the summer, Carmen decides to toss them. But Tibby says they're great. She'd love to have them. Lena and Bridget also think they're fabulous. Lena decides that they should all try them on. Whoever they fit best will get them. Nobody knows why, but the pants fit everyone perfectly. Even Carmen (who never thinks she looks good in anything) thinks she looks good in the pants. Over a few bags of cheese puffs, they decide to form a sisterhood and take the vow of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants . . . the next morning, they say good-bye. And then the journey of the pants — and the most memorable summer of their lives — begins.

I saw this movie a couple of months ago with my girlfriends and it was "good", but not "great" - too many set-ups for tears... so I was looking forward to the book, but not all that jazzed about the over-sadness.

Once again, I wonder why I ever bother to see movies? This book was SO much better than the movie. A very light, airy read, I finished it in one day.

Okay, to show how neurotic I am... the only thing that disturbed me throughout this book is that these people kept wearing dirty pants for THREE MONTHS. Please Please Please PLEASE tell me someone washes them before next Summer ;) I can't wait to read the 2nd one now!

I liked this book much more than I thought I would. I started reading it once and put it down, and thought, "What's the big deal?" I picked it up again, and couldn't put it down, read it in a day. It's charming, and shows the love girlfriends can share. I can't say why I didn't like it the first time I started reading it...maybe I had to let the magic seep in. :)

This book made me cry!

There were so many issues covered in this book that I could relate to, from the divorced parents, to death...
It's not generally my kind of read, but I'm going to be adding the sequel to my wishlist for definite!

Will be sending to Xeyra, who also expressed an interest in it!

RELEASE NOTES:

Sent to Xeyra as a RABCK - Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

It has arrived! Thank you so much, Missy. I've been wanting to read this book ever since I started hearing everyone talking about how good the series was, so I can't thank you enough for sending it my way. I hope to read it soon enough and send it on to someone else. I also thank you for the bear gums (oh, my diet!!!) and I don't know if it was you or any of the previous readers who made/bought it, but the beaded bookmark is lovely and will continue its journeys with the book.

I loved this book. It was a heartwarming read, the adventures of four friends separated for the first time for the Summer, and I laughed and cried and suffered with them. I was at times very sad, at others angry or frustrated or even cheering someone on. But the different stories of these four friends touched me and delighted me, and their friendship warmed me. Besides, those rules of the Sisterhood are so funny. I really liked this book and I'm looking forward to reading the following two. I loved Bailey. I admit that, of all the characters in the book, she was the one I liked the most... I confess I was crying my heart out by the time the book ended.

This book is now making its way to shaunesay, who won it on the Almost Live Swap.

The Pants are ready to travel again! I finally picked this one up to read as it was on the wishlist of a birthday partner, so they'll be going international once again in a couple of weeks!

These girls did not have an easy summer, that's for sure! That is such a hard age, and I wouldn't go back there for anything in the world I don't think. Even so, I really enjoyed this one, and will be reading more of the series.

Enjoy birthday buddy! ;) *hugs*
