This is a collection of short stories set somewhere between India and the US. Jhumpa Lahiri is a skillful writer, who invites us into the lives of several people. (I am hesitant to call them characters, since they are painted in such a realistic manner, that you cannot help but wonder, whether they actually exist.) The author describes in measured tones, in what feels like a slightly distanced style, but always with a lot of empathy the glimpses of the protagonists' lives we are allowed to see.
I'll take it to today's bookcrossing meeting in Zurich
and I took it with me. looking forward to reading it.
this is writing at it's best, with a wounderful language and stile. Reading it seemed like absorbing a painting.
The story I liked most was the one about Mrs.Sen.
Released the book today at the picknick in Wollishofen.

sun-beetle recomended this book so warmly to me, that I coulnd't stand and took it with me.
WOW! What a book! Where should I begin? The language is excellent. The way, Jhumpa Lahiri tells her stories is entertaining, enthralling, amusing and makes one contemplaive.
I had it with me on my trip trough Chile and read it twice, because I liked it so much!
