A Monk Swimming : A Memoir

I found this today in my apartment building's recycling bin. I pulled it out to rescue, register and release, as I had read it some years ago.
Written by the younger brother of Frank McCourt, author of the brilliant memoir, Angela's Ashes. As much as I enjoyed Frank's book, I disliked Malachy's to the same degree. He is a drunken, egotistical, self-absorbed lout who is now riding on his more talented brother's coat tails.
However ... that's only my opinion. When I checked the reviews on Amazon.com, I saw that some people loved this book. I hope whoever finds this does, too.

Just started it-- like it so far (about 15 pages in). Found it on a bench in Penn station while waiting for the 2/3 train downtown. When I left my apt for the train, I realized I had forgotten to bring a book and the Village Voice, which I had meant to take to read on the train to Manhattan, but didn't want to go back. Somehow I missed 14th st, where I meant to get off and ended up at 34th and I was glad to find a book to pass the time with on the way back. My brother is a writer, and his book, Gullboy, will be released sometime next month on Counterpoint, an imprint of Perseus. Maybe I'll ask for an extra copy to release into the wild.
Hi Anulla, thanks for the book. Please check out my brother's book when it's out-- if you like it, I promise not to ride his coattails and write a bad one.

This book was sitting on the windowsill of the apartment I am moving into. The apartment was already vacated. The book was the only thing left. I just read the first two chapters on my trainride to work. Alright so far, but cannot rate it yet.
