What can you say about this classic? I'm a bit stuck as Dickens and I just don't get on!
Passed to me by my sister (a non-BC'er) - I will release it either at a meet or wild release.

I admit I find Dickens a bit hit and miss. My criticisms of some of his work is that it is sentimental and populist. 'Hard Times' is neither of these and is actually a biting and well observed critique of utilitarian philosophy. It may be set in a long gone era but I htink there are many lessons applicable to today. I also liked the characters, and there are some wonderfully vivid descriptions.
Well worth a read. Dickens at his finest.
