This book was good food for thought, though I wish the later chapters were as well thought-out and well written as the earlier chapters were.

One of my favorite chapters was "Monster Moms". Coming from a single-parent home myself, it always gets under my skin when someone tries to convince me that illegitimacy is a Great Evil and that it's always better to have two parents instead of one. So now I have some facts to back up my side of that particular argument.

This book will be traveling on a bookray. Send me a private message if you're interested in participating.

Tips for successful participation in a bookray or ring:
  • As soon as you receive the book, add a journal entry so the sender knows it wasn't lost in transit.
  • Try to read the book within 1-3 months so those after you in the shipping order don't have to wait too long.
  • When you mail the book, add a journal entry with the date you mailed it. This will help me track it down with the postal service if it gets lost in transit.
Here are the BookCrossers who have expressed an interest in this bookray. We'll try to stick to this order if at all possible. When you're done, send a private message to the next person on the list and arrange to mail it to him or her. The last person on the list can pass it on to whomever they want. Enjoy!

RELEASE NOTES:

Journal Entry 7 by titihood on Monday, June 5, 2006
This actually arrived on May 31st, which was moving day so I had a lot to be afraid about! Would we have packed in time? Would the floor in the new place be at least half complete? Would Morpheus escape and run away to the old house?
I haven't got round to starting this book yet but am planning to read it in tandem with a fictional book just to keep the edge off - sometimes too many facts make my brain hurt (especially when I'm living in a place that is still in the midst of renovations!)
22/08/06: I actually finished this about a fortnight or so ago but haven't had the time to write a journal entry. Although I enjoyed the book and found some of its revelations quite shocking; it doesn't do much to answer the questions it raises. Apart from the general population being more aware of how the media work, it seems there is not much of an answer... I don't really agree with this but am on board about raising awareness and educating people about the role the media plays. PM'd next BCer and am waiting for their address.
07/09/06: Sent to mysteryfan03 via airmail - should be with you in a few days :)

Got it! Thanks for sharing!

This was an interesting book. We see so much of how fear is used currently by the government to keep us involved in a never ending war and not say much about the freedoms we are currently losing. It, along with Bull**** (a book I am also reading) can be used to control the masses. the MSM (main stream media) in the US uses fear as one of many tools to lead us to what it wants us to see and not notice other things.
Anyway, thanks so much for sending the book around. It will be in the mail by tomorrow! Thanks again!

Got this in the mail today. I'm about a third of the way through a semester of full time doctoral studies so I'm looking forward to some diversionary reading that isn't too light (otherwise I'll feel guilty that I'm not reading a textbook). I've always been fascinated by how peoples' perceptions of what they should fear are not usually aligned with what they actually should be afraid of, I'm looking forward to getting some solid evidence about some of these phenomena and the influences driving them.

Thanks for getting the book this far!

Ok, I have now had the book over a month, which is something I practically never do. But I am reading it and enjoying it and even got my daughter to bed early tonight which means extra time for me to read, so I'm going to keep plugging away and try to finish this up. Luckily Veruca has posted an extra generous 1-3 month maximum time frame for moving it along, so for once I'm going to hoard a little bit longer to get this finished. I already got to use some of the information in one of my classes and looked like a big fat smarty pants, so hopefully I'll enjoy the rest of this well researched book and get an A+ at the same time.
