Book Description:
Jason Bourne.
He has no past. And he may have no future. His memory is blank. He only knows that he was flushed out of the Mediterranean Sea, his body riddled with bullets.
There are a few clues. A frame of microfilm surgically implanted beneath the flesh of his hip. Evidence that plastic surgery has altered his face. Strange things that he says in his delirium -- maybe code words. Initial: "J.B." And a number on the film negative that leads to a Swiss bank account, a fortune of four million dollars, and, at last, a name: Jason Bourne.
But now he is marked for death, caught in a maddening puzzle, racing for survival through the deep layers of his buried past into a bizarre world of murderous conspirators -- led by Carlos, the world's most dangerous assassin. And no one can help Jason Bourne but the woman who once wanted to escape him.

Wow. Great book, although nothing like the recent movie version. I found the literary character of Jason Bourne much easier to accept. I enjoyed reading this, although some of the technical detail was vague and hard to follow. Luckily it wasn't essential to the plot. The Bourne Identity was my first exposure to the work of Robert Ludlum. I plan to read the Bourne sequels and maybe some of his other novels.

Sorry about the my delay with this book. It is off to skoopmanschap in the Netherlands tomorrow.

it arrived here today, wonderful! I've got quite a mount TBR, but I'll try to give this one a slight boost up to the top. Once I've finished the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I'll start reading this one immeduiately.

What a fantastic book! I'd seen the movie, but it's even better in book form (isn't that always the case? at least when the book comes before the movie)

A more extensive review will be posted on my weblog either later today or tomorrow: http://www.leftontheweb.com/

This was a great story! It was NOTHING like the movie - i was surprised, having read the second part of this trilogy already, which was very close to its film. I enjoyed it, and am very glad I got to read it - thanks so much for sharing.

Both HallieK and gkonkler5 have asked to be skipped, so I will send this out to MissGrace as soon as I can get to the post office.

Edit 3/21/06 - Sent to MissGrace today.

Journal Entry 14 by MissGrace from Anderson, South Carolina USA on Saturday, April 1, 2006

Journal Entry 15 by MissGrace from Anderson, South Carolina USA on Sunday, April 16, 2006
As everyone else has already said...the book was nothing like the movie! (I made my hubby watch it with me this weekend and annoyed him by pointing out all the ways the book was different-and better-than the movie) What I found amazing was that, even though the book was written over 25 years ago it didn't seem "dated." I mean there were certain parts that were (like when was the last time you sent a cable) but it never took away from the story. I also really liked the ending, it made me want to go out a buy the sequel to find out what happens to Jason.

I have already gotten mamagoggle's address and will head to the post office this week to mail it to her.
Thanks for sharing!

EDIT 4/18/2006--sent to mamagoggle today

Journal Entry 16 by mamagoggle from Middlesex, New Jersey USA on Friday, April 28, 2006
This book has arrived and I've started to read it. I have never read any of Robert Ludlum's books and it's about time I gave one a try.

Journal Entry 17 by mamagoggle from Middlesex, New Jersey USA on Sunday, May 14, 2006
I found this book to be very entertaining, though I know I didn't catch all of the twists (and some of the banking stuff regarding the fiche). It was full of action and quick moving and I liked the characters. I did find the dialogue between Bourne and Marie to be a bit wierd with Marie's overuse of "darling" when conversing with him. I just cringed each time she used it and it made the dialogue less realistic for me. The dialogue between the other characters was okay..it was just between the lovers that it felt awkward. I'm glad I finally read a Ludlum book!
I am sending this book to ann-781my in Malaysia tomorrow.
