Though this novel is always filled with exquisitely subtle observations and a delicacy of feeling, it doesn't quite succeed in conveying a full sense of the dystopian world of medical engineering (which, interestingly, Ishiguro places in the present, not the future). But though it's less satisfying than When We Were Orphans, or Ishiguro's earlier books, it's never less than interesting and deeply empathetic.
