Good story, interesting characters, but not her best work.
I've had a hard time getting into Jacquelyn Mitchard books, so I think I shall pass this one along.
Much more palatable than Deep End of the Ocean. The story is interesting enough, and the pace is fast enough to keep the reader interested, but the main characters are remarkably unsympathetic. Annie is meant to be the "strong" one and yet her biggest weakness is the most terribly cliched among female characters, and Arley is so senseless that I can't sympathize with any parts of her life. Mitchard tries to convince us that she's intelligent, but what she tells us and what she shows us are nearly polar opposites. The character of Charley is quirkily intelligent enough to be intriguing, at least.
Worth reading, but not a particular favorite of mine.
