First published in 1929, Faulkner created his "heart's darling," the beautiful and tragic Caddy Compson, whose story Faulkner told through separate monologues by her three brothers--the idiot Benjy, the neurotic suicidal Quentin and the monstrous Jason.
-Book Description
=====
I read it a looong time ago. I remember not disliking it, but finding it a slow read. I had to reread pages to catch what was going on sometimes, which is odd for me. But it was't bad. Just not my style really.

I'm making this into a bookray!
Rules:
*Remember to journal the book when you get it so we know it's arrived safe and sound, then journal again when you've finished reading it.
*Ship to the person after you on this list. I'm trying to work it out according to shipping preference and location on list preference, so let me know if something doesn't work.
*If you PM the next person for their address and they don't respond within 2 weeks or so, let me know. I'll try to contact them as well. If we don't hear from them, we'll just skip them.
*Try not to keep the book for more than a month or so. If you need to keep over a little, that's fine too.
*Whoever is last on the list should RABCK or something similar with this when they're done.

Received in Friday's mail. I'll try to have it on its way fairly soon.

Journal Entry 5 by Serinlea on Friday, July 22, 2005
I think I'd probably need to have a course requirement hanging over my head to finish this book, and I'd need the class discussions to understand it. I'd already heard that the book was split into different sections, so I stuck it out through Benjy's section, hoping the next would become clearer...it didn't.

My advice? Read some summaries before you start and read along with a character/timeline guide (sparknotes.com would probably work). There are several characters that have the same name (two Quentins and two Maurys) and it flips between the past and the present with little/no warning. I may give this book another try later in the future, but at the moment I've gotten too frustrated by trying to read through it and following almost nothing.

Here's hoping the next person on the list fares better.

Done! Sorry for taking that long, but it was a difficult one. I mean, especially since english is not my first language (not even my second one!).
The Benjy section was really difficult for me, but from the moment Jason comes in it's much better...
And yes, I liked it a lot, I loved the style, the philosophy.
PMing jillmari3..Bon voyage furious book!

"it is hard believing to think that a love or a sorrow is a bond purchased without design"

"[...]
the watch..
when father gave it to me he said I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire; it's rather excruciating-ly apt that you will use it to gain the reducto absurdum of all human experience which can fit your individual needs no better then it fitted his or his father's. I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it. Because no battle is ever won he said. They are not even fought. The field only reveals to man his own folly and despair, and victory is an illusion of philosophers and fools."

"The air brigntened, the running shadow patches were now the obverse, and it seemed to him that the fact that the day was clearing was another cunning stroke on the part of the foe, the fresh battle toward which he was carrying ancient wounds"

well, that was a hard one! it's the most difficult book i've ever read in english: there was some parts i so didn't understand what was going on, i felt like a polar bear in front of the tour eiffel, wondering what it was doing there and what would happen next
anyway, i did like this book, how well the author shows the torments of the family, how we discover the whole story through the eyes of different characters. even if i didn't understand everything, i really wanted to know what would come next.
