A young woman returns to northern Quebec to the remote island of her childhood, with her lover and two friends, to investigate the mysterious disappearance of her father. Flooded with memories, she begins to realise that going home means entering not only another place but another time. As the wild island exerts its elemental hold and she is submerged in the language of the wilderness, she sees that what she is really looking for is her own past.

Change of plan... back in my hands.
Picked up at the Unconvention. I've enjoyed some other Atwood novels, and this looked like a nice short read for part of the journey home :)
This book turned out a little too odd for me. I didn't really understand what the main character was talking about most of the time, there were lots of unexplained "theys" in there and the narrative jumped around too much between time and place. I'm not too good with books that just hint at things and leave subtle clues, so I think this wasn't for me. I'll leave it somewhere and hope it finds a new and more appreciative reader!
