I received this book as a birthday or Christmas present from my Canadian reading co-inspirator aka Villette - a nice book in the hand, if that makes sense, a paperback with a slip cover.
It's a sad story about complicated families. Lots of them, lots of books about them, but this is an original work - set in a Mennonite town and involving the departure of a mother and elder sister, and the father and younger sister who are left behind.
Soon after I read this, my local reading group did Donna Tartt's Little Friend, with which this bears some similarities, but this is a more economically told and thus more effective tale.
