This is the continuing story of Dicey Tillerman. Fabulous.
thanks for the replacement copy! will try to get to this soon-ish.
this was a book that i'd actually read when i was young, but i didn't remember anything about it except for the bra-buying scene which was only slightly less traumatic this time around than i remembered it being. ;) i vaguely recall reading the first book as well, and although i'm not really motivated to reread that one i am curious about jeff's book -a solitary blue-, so i hope we get to that one eventually. this book does a great job of painting dicey's character, although i had to continuously remind myself that she's only in eighth grade since she seemed so mature. the way she finally opens herself up to the friendship of two people, the memorable mina and jeff, (and her family to a third) is touching, and the portrayal of the family and their problems and the final section where she has to deal with her mother's death are all nicely done overall. this is the kind of emotionally mature book that the newbery committee seems to love, and this was a worthy winner.
