Book description:
Five prominent biophysicists give the United States government an urgent warning: sterilization procedures for returning space probes may be inadequate to guarantee uncontaminated re-entry to the atmosphere.

Two years later, Project Scoop sends seventeen satellites into the fringes of space in order to "collect organisms and dust for study."

Then a probe satellite falls to the earth, landing in a desolate area of northeastern Arizona. In the nearby town of Piedmont, bodies lie heaped and flung across the ground, faces locked in frozen surprise.

The terror has begun....

I bought this at Black Bart's Bookstore's "Going out of Business" sale last week for eventual release or trade. I read it many years ago and enjoyed it.

Actual cover is much older than cover pictured

Finished the book a little while ago. I liked it overall, but sometimes the foreshadowing got annoying. You know that as soon as the scientists would think everything was fine, something would go wrong!

Mailed to collectorkerri.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with this book. I've read a lot of Michael Crichton's books over the years and most of them were a lot more exciting than this one. For a writer who many claim invented the techno-thriller, this was so dry in places it was almost tedious. It almost seems like he was practicing being the titan of the bestseller list he was yet to become. I never really felt the sense of urgency the plot developments seemed to want to induce in me.

At the moment, it will go onto my available stack; I may place it in the next round of the First Sentences Virtual Bookbox.

Wow! This book -along with its companion- took a long scenic route to travel from USA to Greece, been nearly 5 months on the road!

It seems to be an enjoyable read, thank you very much collectorkerri (and BigrTex and krin511) !

This isn't very much my type of read , but I picked it up as something light and it was OK-ish.

The start was promising and it was a fun medical-techno-science fiction thriller, but it was kind of easy to guess some plot twists and the author overdid it with scientific information.
I agree with previous readers about its flaws. Sometimes it was a bit like hearing someone preaching and teaching on various subjects and the flow of the story was often interrupted. The author kind of spoiled the suspense when mentioning things like " In hind sight so and so character realised..." . This spoiled that so and so character would make it out of the story alive!
The end was very fast and written on a kind of anti-climatic way and the solution to the major problems came too easily and conveniently.

All that said, it was a decent read to pass some time : )
