Another one from the meeting in Utrecht. Got interested by the obviously Jewish name (but, contrary to my first ideas, I don't think I know this writer). On more detailed inspection, it seemed like a good book, so it's migrating to my shelf :-)
Interesting. It certainly gave me some new insights about the medical profession ;-). On the cover, it's compared to "Catch-22 with stethoscopes", which I think is about the best description I've ever seen on cover. It's apt, and anyone who's read Catch-22 knows more or less what to expect.
Anyway, I liked the strange acronyms best. Gomer (Get Out of My EmeRgency) is only so much. My personal favourite is ROR (Romance On the Rocks), and of course LOL in NAD (but I'm not going to write that one out; read it for yourself...)
Although the "delivery of medical care" itself must be a horrible exaggeration, it seems to contain a nucleus of truth in it somewhere. Especially the parts about the interns having to deal with all sorts of stuff they've never truly been trained for, and cracking up in various ways, struck me as pretty real. But then, what do I know of being a doctor?
Obviously, this books will have to be released in a hospital. Given that I'm mercifully not that much of a regular there, it might take a little while until I can leave it on a nice spot.
