I LOVE this book, most especially because of the actress who reads it. Her voice is perfect! I already have one copy circulating

http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/2402766

and found this copy recently so I am sending it to a special bookcrossing friend who I know (hope!) will love it as much as I did.

You are too sweet! And generous! Wow -- a package from jessibud is always guaranteed "good", but this was really really spectacular! Thank you thank you thank you! I'll be driving down to Colorado Springs to see my grandmother in a week or so, so I ought to be able to listen (or start it) then :)

Thanks, jessibud! Hugs :)

I have to write this down before I forget (the downside of a tape vs. a book you can flip through!) -- I thought it was such a lovely way for Katie to describe her stepmother: . . . the calm, pleasant look in her eyes a welcome mat for my feelings.

I'm through tapes 1 and 2 and have started 3. I would be further along, but my mom called me about halfway between here and Colorado Springs this morning, and I talked to her for probably 45 minutes!

I love the actress's voice for this book! OHMYWORD -- are all audio books like this? Such a perfect match of story and narrator? wow Thank you so much for sharing this with me, jessibud -- I wanted to call you about 15 minutes into the first tape to thank you and yell at you for sending me something that would make me cry when I was driving!

This space reserved for the rest of my journal entry when I have time to write it :)

Update November 23: I realize I don't actually have much else to add, except that I really liked how the actress' voice captured the voice of the girl telling the story, and I liked the stepmom. I remember having a pit in my stomach about her friend (was her name Cynthia? I can't remember) at the party with the "cool" girls she was trying to impress. And I also liked (a lot!) her relationship with the old couple and the kids she babysat.

And now I'm reminded again why you should write your journal entry as soon as you read/listen to a book!

This is going in a you-said-you'd-like-it/birthday/happy bookczuk package with this book and something from the Lindt factory :)

That antof9 (though the count has officially gone to 10, with no user-name change. I forgot to ask--what day was the little guy born? Did he have the proper sense to be born on MY birthday (Sept 19) or on Abby Herson's birthday (Sept 20- she was my best friend growing up ) or on the Anniversary of Hurricane Hugo (Sept 21). TEll your sister that Virgo babies are blessings!

I look forward to listening to this while I walk on the eliptical walker. Thank you darling!

Well...the good thing is that books on tape are great for listening to while walking. The bad thing is, that you can't mark a favorite description or phrase like I like to. It was an enjoyable listen, but I like some of Berg's other stuff better (her last two books absolutely floored me (The Art of Mending and The Year of Pleasures.

I think for my walking books, if I decide to ditch the iPod for literature, I need something that I won't want to look back on. Maybe I'll just stick to jazz when walking- gets the heart rate up!.

Anyhow, I love the descriptions of the love between the older couple, and some of stepmom's jingles for the contest really made me laugh.

I shall offer this at the meetup next week and if no takers, then offer it up as a RABCK in the forum.

Thanks for passing along to me!
