Jean Plaidy is an old favorite of mine, so I am very happy to see her novels in a new edition. Her work is beautifully researched and is how I originally learned about English and French history.

Am planning to release on my upcoming business trip to Cincinnati.

When I first received this book, I thought it looked interesting. I recently picked it up to read it and on the back cover found out that Jean Plaidy was also Victoria Holt. I was then all set to be disappointed. I have read two Victoria Holt novels and totally hated them. They had the whole "man rapes the woman who really wants it and loves it" thing going on and that just turns my stomach. But I was pleasantly surprised by this book, I must admit. There was none of that garbage in here. I was completely caught up in the storyline and characters. It was also great reading because I remember talking about these people in history classes at school. If history were taught more like this, on a more personal level instead of just memorizing dates and names, it would be so much more interesting. School curriculum books are so sanitized of mentions of male/female relationships and religious references that they are boring and students feel like they are not reading real life events. I realize this is a work of historical fiction, but my point is- retelling true historical facts in this manner would make history lessons more intriguing and easier to absorb.
I always marvel at the way people talk in these books. I assume it is somewhat authentic and am amazed that people were capable of conveying certain things by having to allude to them since they couldn’t be said outright. I don't have this gift socially and end up being rather unintentionally blunt, so I enjoy reading about those that aren't because the ability impresses me.

This book is part of my challenge- Keep Them Moving Release Challenge. This is a challenge I started in which people are supposed to read and release books given to them by other Bookcrossers and do it throughout October and November. I will probably wild release it in the next few days.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

I know I totally mispelled the name of the place, but nothing looked right.
I left this book on the drive-thru talk box. I wasn't sure if it would stay, so after I got my food, I parked and watched it. I saw the person who came through after me pick it up.

Journal Entry 7 by Scout23 from Hamilton, Ohio USA on Friday, November 18, 2005
I picked up the book @ a chic-fillet, and of course I had to read a travelling book. I don't usually read this type of book (historical fiction),I usually read the classics, and the Satires, but I did enjoy it. The story was woderful and I'm thinking about incorporating Jean Plaidy into my usual reading. Sorry, I read it before logging on, but now that I've updated the Journal, I will set it on it's way again. I hope whoever finds this book will enjoy it also.
