This books charts the story of Mary Boleyn, younger sister of the more famous Ann; who becomes the mistress of Henry VIII at the age of 14 (and she is already married!) Due to the machinations of her family, the Howards, she is pushed into a secondary position at court as her sister strives to become Henry's second wife.

I found the book interesting in the main (mainly because I am interested in the Tudors) but did skip some passages as got a bit bored in places.

At over 500 pages long I think I might be excused though! Also, I knew what was going to happen!

The book is well researched and quite well written but a bit too much of a romantic pot boiler for me although I am glad of the chance to read it.

RELEASE NOTES:

Hope you enjoy the book!

The first time I tried to pick this up and read it, I couldn't get into it because the way it is written the characters annoyed me. So I set it aside for quite a while. I must have been in a more forgiving mood last month when I read it because I did enjoy it. It did bother me that there were a lot of historical inaccuracies. I know it is fiction, but I like my historical fiction books to keep the facts straight and then write the fiction about things that are unknown and could be true. I don't like it when the writer changes major facts to fit the story. Still, I did enjoy reading it, and it got me to reacquaint myself with some English history. I'm not sure if I would read another Philippa Gregory novel or not. She certainly writes about interesting subjects, so I might give her book about Elizabeth a chance. Thanks for sharing your book veganknitter!

I never saw the show so i didn't know what to expect. it's a big book with small print. I was glad I finally started it after a friend had recommended. It was very good. I want to read more of Gregory's books. Enjoy!
