Didn't particularly enjoy this book. It took me several times to start and finally finish, but I did enjoy the BookCrossing process involved here.

This is the third time I've come in contact with this book and I always pay attention to those kinds of things for some reason so maybe I'll check it out this time. The first time was in SF. Someone handed me a copy as I walked by, which I left out on the street later on. The second time was yesterday, when it was offered to me free at a garage sale after I'd bought four brand new books for $6. Check out what I got.

America - by John Stewart
Live from New York - SNL anthology
Hero with a thousand faces - Joseph Campbell
Guns, Germs, and Steel

That's right, I rock. All in like new condition. $6. Anyway, all this to say, I might have to actually check this book out because the third time was this morning, after surfing in Huntington. Just for kicks, I checked Huntington on the go hunting pages before going home and there it was again, released hours ago. Haven't heard good things about it. The guy at the garage sale said it was the worst book he'd ever read but then admitted he'd only read the first paragraph, which I guess was pretty bad.

But, again, this is the third time it's fallen into my lap so I'll check it out. Plus, you've got to like the special preprinted book crossing edition. Interesting marketing strategy. Wonder if it is working. Great title, anyway.

We'll see.

Ok, so I have to admit I never did finish this but I did read the first two and last chapters. And I'm in Michigan now for the holidays and am determined to release books here that I've found on bookcrossing. And I've found so many I'm never going to have time to read this one all the way through. Plus, this guy has saturated most of California with this book so time to start spreading the "wealth" around the US, I guess. I keep seeing this book everywhere. As far as I can tell, he self published it and then started passing out free copies as a way to boost awareness. And it seems to be working a bit. Anyway, he finished a book at least, so kudos to him. Saw him on a few news shows talking about the book and his unorthodox marketing system.

As far as the book goes, it seems to be about a guy who meets a "strangely powerful" girl, falls in love, takes a lot of acid, renames himself Ransom (reference to CS Lewis's space trilogy?), turns into a ram, and then jumps into a volcano. (I'm not ruining anything here, that's on the back of the book.) I got lost in the first chapter as well because they keep referencing something called the Chetaslina or Chesnina and I couldn't figure out what that was. Not taking enough acid as I read I guess. Oh well, always next time.
