Victor Carl is sick of his loser life. After six thankless years hanging on to his sinking private law practice, his debts are huge, his partner has flown the coop, his photocopier is broken, and his dream of a secure job in one of Philadelphia's exclusive firms is long gone.
Enter Willima Prescott III. He is a high-powered attorney who has everything that Victor wants. Prescott, though, needs Victor's help representing the aide of a local politician, accused of extortion, arson, and murder. A Victor has to do is follow Prescott's lead and he'll have every success he's ever wanted. It all looks too good to be true. And it is . . .

A good solid well written book. Although one cannot like or admire the protagonist, Victor Carl, he is so aware of his own faults - my incompetence, my capacity for self-delusion, my steep leanings toward venality - that one wants to get in there and help him. This is the first book by this author, and I will have to find out whether there is a follow-up.

Found in Nuneaton Post office.
Read by several family mambers. Ok read but not mindblowing. Not in John Grisham class in my view. Am considering a journey to Europe to expand its horizons.

I found it enjoyable overall, even though it was sometimes hard going (too many double-crosses). I picked it up in Brussels and dropped it off in London via Eurostar.
