from the back cover;

No woman in her right mind would consent to wearing a corset for a month. Especially a "skinny-challenged" woman like myself. But dreams of being debt-free danced in my head when I received the offer to appear on a reality TV show.

A 'Month in the Life of a Victorian Duke' is about real people-like me-pretending to live on a English estate, circa 1879. Sounds fun, no? We'll, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. We're talking no televisions, no cell phones, no PMS medication> And did I mention the corsets? No breathing for a full month. Luckily, when I met the real-life duke who was to be my pretend husband he took my breath away...

In a manor in which every must strictly follow Victorian lifestyle, things were bound to go wrong. Like when some harmless lust turned into that other thing...

Love was definitely no in the contract.

I thought it was terrible. The sad thing is, I believe it could have been great. The plot line was great fun, a cast of crazy characters and out of work actors going back to Victorian times for a reality show. Tessa the American Duchess could have been brilliant. Instead she was a boring, sarcastic. I was so tired of her low self-esteem sarcastic jokes and what was with the horse fascination? Unbelievable and boring. I only finished it because it was a bookring.
I think with a co-author and a better editor this could have been a fun chick lit. Instead it was a grocery store romance with too much complaining.
That said, I thank bksfamily for sharing it with us regardless.
Off to icesong.

OK, I seem to be out of sync with everyone else on the ring so far, but I thought this book was a riot! I laughed and laughed. I am so glad to see a heroine who it not a size 6 perfect beauty! I could definitely identify with her insecurities. This story reminded me of the crazy Stephanie Plum series, with wacky characters, a witty heroine, a fun love story, and some really "inspiring" naughty parts! I thoroughly enjoyed this nice piece of escapism and plan to look for more of MacAlister's books.

Thanks bksfamly! I will PM jnpert right away for an address to get this moving again.

Update: Mailed to jnpert 11-7-05, media rate.

Ok I apologize in advance to anyone who enjoyed this book, but I had real trouble getting through it. In fact, I would read a few pages, get bored, leave it for a while. Even for a romance it was pretty unbelievable and to me the main character was sort of unlikeable-and she wasn't even trying to act like she was in the 1800s! I think someone earlier in the ring said it,the concept was actually pretty neat, but the author couldn't make it work.

The book is ready for release. Nokturnalmuse asked to be skipped since she was getting the book from another source. I've PMed aliciayoung, but haven't heard back. Once I get an address, I will mail off.

Mailed to aliciayoung on 12-19.

When I first read one on Katie MacAlister's books, I thought she was the greatest author. Unfortunately, the more books I read, the less I want to read more. I really did not enjoy this book and found it hard to get into. It just went on and on. Anyway, sorry for holding up the bookring. I will be sending to ldpaulson as soon as I get the address.

Update:
ldpaulson asked to be skipped. Waited on shipping information from sharalsbooks.

Unfortunately, this book couldn't grab my attention. This seems to be happening quite a bit this year for some reason.
