The plot of this book is very similar to "The Da Vinci Code", Robert Langdon has to discover a secret place using his knowledge on symbology and religious history.
In this book an ancient group knew as the "Illuminati" tries to destroy Vatican City by making explode a new kind of bomb made from antimatter.
Vittoria, a scientist from the CERN, will help Langdon in his "lofty quest".

"Obliteration of Catholicism was the Illuminati`s central convenant. The brotherhood held that the superstitious dogma spewed forth by the church was mankind`s greatest enemy. They feared that if religion continued to promote pious myth as absolute fact, scientific progress would halt, and mankind would be doomed to an ignorant future of senseless holy wars"
"Much like we see today"

RELEASE NOTES:

The book is in the very center of Ljubljana. Starting at Presernov trg, you take Wolfova ulica; there is a passage in the right side of the street that takes you to Gostilna AS. At the beginning of this passage, there are three signals: a yellow one: Cutty Shark, a red one: Cantina Mexicana and a brown one: Gostilna AS Bar Restaurant Club. You have to look for the book in the wall where the brown signal (Gostilna) is the lower one. The book is hidden behind the brown signal against the wall, just behind the word "Bar". It is not visible from the passage.
Enjoy the hunt.

We had quite a fun, ajdica and I, catching Angels and Demons. Ajdica followed successfully the detailed instructions on where the book is hidden I had given her. And then the object of desire came mysteriously to rest on my bookshelf. For the time being.

Descriptions of Rome and Bernini's art are second to none. Resurrection of Illuminati ingenious. Art and science are skilfully interwoven in the fabric of the novel, nevertheless there are significant exceptions. The plot is at first compelling but as you turn page after page it loses novelty and becomes predictable. At the end even absurd. This novel has the best and the worst of the genre.

The Ecstasy of Saint Therese, 1647-52. Marble. Cappella Cornaro, Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome.

A solid, enjoyable and thrilling page-turner this is.
Dan Brown's writing is arresting, which isn't so odd since he taught English and creative writing for years. (He still does that, for a lot more money, that is.)

I much enjoyed the book's underlying scientific themes. For I too had (and still have) great moments with the physics of elementary particles.
And that despite of the story getting pretty sci-fi at times. This was checked by a scientist from the very CERN / Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire itself: "The scenario of a terrorist attack and antimatter bomb, stolen in CERN as popularized in Angels and Demons, is highly unlikely."

I gave it to my trekking companion, who's going to university this fall to study - nothing else than physics!
May - the god have mercy with his soul (and - the force be with the book).

The book is very well written and full of surprises. I enjoyed it especially because you have to think a lot. And also the symetricall symbols, riddles and some physic facts make it even more interesting.

I gave it to a friend who reads a lot. Especially science fiction.

Interesting book but the ending is a bit unrealistic.
