"Pop culture, chaos theory and matters of the heart collide in this unique novella from the Hugo and Nebula winning author of Doomsday Book.

Sandra Foster studies fads and their meanings for the HiTek corporation. Bennet O'Reilly works with monkey group behavior and chaos theory for the same company. When the two are thrust together due to a misdelivered package and a run of seemingly bad luck, they find a joint project in a flock of sheep. But a series of setbacks and disappointments arise before they are able to find answers to their questions." -- Amazon.com

I just had the *busiest* day at work! It was such a nice surprise when I came home to find that the book had arrived so quickly! Will begin reading immediately!

A good, enjoyable, and quick read. Much like (but not quite as good as) To Say Nothing of the Dog, Connie Willis does a great job at creating a story that is fun & light but also serious & thought-provoking.
I'll definitely read more of her work!

I'll be sending this book on its way to Rampallion sometime this week (hopefully tomorrow!)...

Just pulled this out of the mailbox. Thanks for including me in this bookring.

I love Connie Willis and I don't know anything about this book and I am confused yet intrigued that the first page is about hula hoops and I can't wait to read more.

Delightful book. If you are familiar with other Connie Willis books, this is a cross between Remake (unusual and incisive pop culture references help speed the plot) and Passage (scientists use brains, guts, and humor to overcome obstacles and people in their way). I really need to get my hands on a copy of To Say Nothing of the Dog, which I haven't read yet and which mikopikotrain recommends.

I think my favorite bits of trivia were that Alice Roosevelt (pictured at left) had a shade of blue-gray named after her, and that color became phenomenally popular; and the assertion that Ouija boards become more popular in times of war.

This book is on its way to Colorado.

I received it today, thanks for sending! I can finally cross this book off my wishlist now that I'm about to read it. I will finish within two weeks and send off to daemonwolf in the UK. Thanks again!

Wow, what an excellent book! It was MUCH better than Willis' Lincoln's Dreams, which I also thought was great. I loved the humor, the facts, and the flow of the book. It was easy to read and get into, and hard to put down.
The ending was very satisfactory and rich for me, I've been thinking about it all day since I finished it. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantastic read. Thanks for sharing!

thanksssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! well and i can't do more than that. i don't think i can write anything about the book, except that it was excellent and i loved it and i think willis is a genius.... i hate this genre thing, i supppose that might be a fad also, i mean when is fiction not fantasy? i mean fiction is fantasy, right? and when did fantasy mean dragons and swords and flying thingies. and when did we decide to put a book in this section or that and then decide to read these sorts of books and not those sorts, cause they are just so not literature, like romance, fantasy and science fiction are bad things, like if they (romance, fantasy, science) don't make us humans then what does? bad literature/writing is bad (so there is bad romance books and bad fantasies ) and .... well this comes from my frustaration on how to force friends that don't touch fantasy/sci-fi, to read this :) and also my love for the book.
just another note and i'll be gone (it's a good thing that i didn't know what to say, if not i would've been here forever) it's was also a bit scary and makes me think, which one of the things i was doing were my own, which one was following the herd, and i better be careful to not to fall off the cliff!!

thanks, so, so much krin511 for a lovely ring, and thanks daemonwolf for mailing it. will be mailing it next week.
