On the Road

On The Road, the most famous of Jack Kerouac's works, is not only the soul of the Beat movement and literature, but one of the most important novels of the century. Like nearly all of Kerouac's writing, On The Road is thinly fictionalized autobiography, filled with a cast made of Kerouac's real life friends, lovers, and fellow travelers. Narrated by Sal Paradise, one of Kerouac's alter-egos, On the Road is a cross-country bohemian odyssey that not only influenced writing in the years since its 1957 publication but penetrated into the deepest levels of American thought and culture.
One of the most amazing books I have ever read. I love it and my husband probably has nearly all of Kerouac's books. And some of the other Beats, too. Hubby introduced me to the Beats and I immediately loved them and their works. We both wrote our senior seminar papers (we were English majors) on Kerouac and the Beats. Everyone should read this one!
Offering this as a bookring with The Portable Beat Reader.

Arrived with the post as part of a Two Books Bookring. Thanks HallieK :o)
I have already read On The Road since my favourite English singer/songwriter Allan Taylor (www.allantaylor.com) had written a beautiful song called Kerouac's Dream and it inspired me to go and get the book. It played a huge part in Allan's life (he is now approaching 60) at various stages in his life. I love to travel myself so I could certainly identify with the 'let's go' attitude even though back in those days, a lone female traveller would have raised a few eyebrows I guess.

I've kept this combined bookring for so long so I've decided not to read on the road. I've already read it in German several years ago, on a long distance flight.
So I will let the combined ring travel on soon.
So I will let the combined ring travel on soon.
The books finally arrived and made me very happy!
I'll try to finish reading them as soon as possible, so that they'll be on the road again soon, travelling to the next person of the ring.
