A superb Derbyshire novel, and we all know how the Constant Caver, now adrift in the endless wilderness of Yorkshire, is fond of his home county getting a look in. Especially when it's done with such style as this. Ancient forces are closing in on the Dark Peak village of Bridelow, where a benevolent Goddess has kept Her traditional worship under the watchful and pragmatic eyes of the Mothers Union and the rather funky local vicar. But all this peace was reliant on the Man in the Moss, an Iron Age sacrifical victim who held back the enormous and deadly energies contained within Bridelow Moss by undergoing the triple death. Archaeologists have removed the Man. And outside interference - stemming from a terrible internal threat throught long gone - coupled with the religious mania of the new Vicar - is about to release something that will literally overwhelm the village, unless it can be stopped.

And not only all that excitement, but also a religious justification to drink beer. Hurrah!

I'm going to send this to some friends in Buxton, who will, if they're smart, keep an eye out for Mr Peveril-Stanage, before it's too late...
