There is a long tradition of Great Detectives, and Dirk Gently does not belong to it. But his search for a missing cat uncovers a ghost, a time-traveller, AND the devastating secret of humankind!

Just finished this book and must say it is good. Does not quite reach the level that THGTTG does, however it is still a good book. I guess the problem is that anything Adams wrote will be forever compaired to THGTTG.

One small suggestion for anyone who reads this book. If you find yourself 20-30 pages in and wondering what it is all about and if it is worth it, keep going! It took me 40-50 pages before I really started to get into the book.

Sent to Xanocas 10/05/05.

Picked up today from the post office together with 4 other rings/rays:) Will read as soon as possible! Thank you Sublevel4 for another lovely bookring!

2 October 05: a nice fantasy read for my last free day before school starts! I loved the way in which Life was reflected through music - by the way, I finally understood why J.S.Bach is considered "the father of music!"; it all makes sense now:). And my favorite character was by far the horse!
I have pmed the next reader on the list!

7 October 05: mailed today!

Great read in typical mystifying Adams style. I got a bit lost in places but enjoyed the story. I'd love a door like that....
Waiting for the Addy of the next reader.

Enjoyable, fun book. I now have "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" on my TBR. (It's another Dirk Gently book.)

dospescados has gotten her/his hands on another copy, so the book is off to katayoun. Enjoy! :)
Sent by Air Mail this afternoon.

Sorry for having this book so long. We've been short-handed at work, and it's been hard to get to the P.O.

here!!! i had a pretty good day today.... three books at the same time. well it's great to get books and i would leave worrying about the time tomorrow. though since my rings are all gone and i'm free of all obligations except one AND i am going on a trip (and so no work and so more time for reading!) hopefully i would read and pass it on quickly and then it's by one of my favorite authors and so i am sure i am going to read it quickly. thanks Sublevel4 and thanks sqdancer.

Wow, just finished this, my 15th read of 2022. Sorry it's taken me 4736 to read it since capture.

An amazing work by Douglas Adams, it's difficult to describe my feelings about it but it’s outrageously silly yet clever and hilariously funny in parts. I enjoyed it so much I’m now going to read the sequel, The Long Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul, as my next read.

Journal Entry 20 by KT-J at Bury, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Wednesday, March 23, 2022
I did read this a couple of years ago but going to re-read it as a quick reminder before I read the sequel!

Journal Entry 21 by KT-J at Bury, Greater Manchester United Kingdom on Thursday, December 1, 2022
I re-read this and enjoyed it just as much the second time! It's a completely daft book but the story is cleverly woven together. There is a great cast of characters and lots of fun ideas explored, a great read!
