I purchased this at Merlin's Books (2714 S. Glenstone) to release.

From the back:
This extraordinarily ambitious novel sets out to portray the spiritual landscape of the Cuban people in the wake of Castro's revolutionary upheaval. The novel centers around three generations of women in the Lucientes family and follows the story of Alicia Lucientes as, almost inadvertently, she becomes the most famous dissident on the island.

Found it in lovely little restaurant, (low key, great food, pre-teen friendly) where I had taken my daughter and her two friends to celebrate her 12th birthday. We had started the evening with rock climbing at our local climbing gym, and finished up after our meal at a small town "Fall Festival" carnival that was on the way home, very quaint and sweet. Magical night, all in all, twelve is such an "on the cusp" age...I don't know if she'll want to hang out with Mum at the rock gym and carnival for too many more years...Haven't yet had time to start the book, still recovering from birthday follies as the following day included pottery painting, scavenger hunt at the mall, and swimming...
