The story of Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a psychologist during the 19th century at a time when psychology was in its infancy. A murder mystery, investigated by 2 detectives developing finger printing and other methods as a way of solving crimes, a female amateur detective (one of the first women hired onto the NY police force under Theodore Roosevelt's leadership), a journalist recording their efforts and various other characters.

Dark, fairly graphic descriptions, well researched. Enjoyable.
