Loved "Poisonwood Bible," but didn't enjoy "The Bean Trees" very much, so I've decided to skip this one, as it sounds more similar to the latter.

Still TBR but offering on the international reverse relay to bluenoser.
I enjoy Kinsolver's descriptions of Arizona but the main character, Condi, just kept on getting the in the way of the scenery. I never grew to care about her past or her tough life or her inability to fit in. She spends the entire book wining and feeling sorry for herself when much of her trouble is of her own making!

My first new book in 2006. Thanks so much caligula03. It just arrived today, must have done a little site-seeing on it's way up to my chilly mailbox. I just finished reading Kingsolver's "Pigs in Heaven", her beautiful writing delights me like good poetry and I'm really looking forward to reading this one. I may take it over to France in a couple of weeks.
I love the author's style of writing, but this one didn't grab me in quite the same way as others I've read. I found her main character rather shallow and selfish and the environmental "lessons" a bit too obvious and lacking her usual poetic subtlety.
I'm still glad I had the chance to read it though and I look forward to more books by this author. Thanks caligula03
