A Complicated Kindness

The best way to describe this book is "poignant". It is, for the most part, profoundly sad. Yet told in a voice that still sees humour in life. Even when hope seems beyond her reach.
I enjoyed the book - it is written in a richly visual language. I related so closely to Nomi -- at times I wanted to reach into the pages and rescue her from her desperate life. My heart ached for her... but the book was not what I expected. There was, indeed, complicated kindness. But there was no closure -- maybe because for Nomi, there never will be.

I had been wanting to read this book for a long time and mooched it from a Canadian user at bookmooch.com - the book was great and I plan to send it on to another bookmoocher.
Am reading it right now. Will return it to its bookmooch loaner when I'm done.
