The French Lieutenant's Woman
2 journalers for this copy...

Or have I read it already? I saw the movie. In English class. It was horrible. Then I watched it at home, and it was excellent. Isn't it strange how that happens?

Thanks for couriering this to me, hunnyb! I did read this book ages ago, & will delight in reading it again.
And I loved the chocolate surprise!

Argh!
Have just had the most awful premonition after re-reading your journal entry above, hunnyb... for I read this preparatory to teaching the book to my Year 12 Extension 1 class next term. But even without reading your comment... what a daunting challenge I have set myself. This book is such a complex meditation on the nature of existentialism, freedom, choice and cultural expectations. As much as I was emotionally drawn in, I was also intellectually challenged. Fowles makes his characters, narrator and readers perform mental gymnastics.
As to how I'm going to teach this...
Ready to return at next rockclimbing soiree. Thanks for the loan!
