RABCK for Spike1972.
Spike - I *know* this is a children's book but thought you might appreciate an 'easy' read while you're in hospital as they're horrible places and hard to concentrate in.

Thank You Laura ;o)
That's fine - you know by now that I'm just a big kid anyway ;op

Arrived safely this afternoon, I shall put it next in Mt TBR although I have one and a half books ahead of it as I'm finding less time to read now I'm back at work.
Thank you Spike.
Thank you Spike.

I just couldn't get on with this book. As much as I have been intrigued by the book since it first came out I just could not get beyond the first page.
Arrived yesterday, thank you catrionamoore. I've 3 other rings with me too, one with 1344 pages but I'll get to this ASAP.
Sorry to have taken so long to get to this but I can assure you it was well worth the wait.
I can hardly believe that the book was written by a 15 yr old. I was quickly transported to Alagaesia & thoroughly enjoyed being introduced to the Empire, the Varden, Urgals, Shades, elves & dwarves. I can see in the book the influences of other writers like Tolkein & C S Lewis, whose books I love too.
I'm going to have to see if Eldest is out there on a ring/ray as I want to know what happens next.
Thank you Spike1972 for sending this out on a ring. I have PM'd akg for their details.

Posted today 5 Jan 2006 to akg. Enjoy!
My first bookcrossing book of 2006 arrived today, thanks Scotsbookie. I'm afraid that I have several rings I need to read ahead of this one, but I will get to it as soon as I can. I've wanted to read this for quite a while now, but I must be disciplined and read my others first. DH was very interested in it when it fell out the envelope and has asked to read it; I explained how rings worked and that if someone was after me I had to post it on as soon as I'd finished it. However I suggested there might be time for him to read it before I get round to it, but only if he registers!
Well I have registered and stole this book off DW akg before she got round to reading it and sending it on its way round the ring. She has a few other books to read first anyway!
Enjoying it a lot so far ...

It took me a while to get into this book which I think was due to the fact I started straight after finishing The Magician's guild by Trudi Cananvan which I read in two days and thought was fantastic. However after about a third I was completely hooked and finished the book in 2 days as well.
It is such a good marketing ploy of the publishers to add the first bit of the next book. Eragon finished at quite nice point where I wanted to know more but I wasn't desperate to start the next book, so I tried to avoid the first chapter of Eldest but I was too weak and submitted and now I really want to read it :o)
I notice darktea hasn't written any comments on his view of the book. He must have enjoyed it because he has told me off for letting him read the first book of a trilogy when the last book hasn't been published yet!
I posted this to adrienne10 on Monday by the slowest possible method at her request.

Received in today's mail. I have 3 ring books ahead of this, and hopefully plenty of reading time for a bit. I am a bad ring participant because I purchased a book from my favorite author yesterday and could not resist starting it. I plan to get this passed along as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing this book!
Thanks so much for sharing this book! I'm sorry it has taken me nearly 2 months to read it. I actually started it a couple weeks ago, while taking several exams and doing a couple presentations. My spare reading time was not much.
I did enjoy this story. As scotsbookie mentioned, the influence of several authors is apparent. I caught a bit of Katharine Kerr as well as Tolkien and CS Lewis. Unfortunately, with this novel, I see how people who do not care for fantasy say all fantasy is cookie-cutter and alike. There were a lot of fantasy cookie-cutter episodes in the novel: young person finds something that changes their life, death of family, journies, death of instructor. I got a bit tired of the journeying, though.
There were a few places where it was also apparent that a 15 year old wrote it. The view-points and story had a definite teenage feel that is not usual when an adult writes a novel for teens. However, those points were few and far between. I did think it was amazing that a 15 year old was able to get a book published, but I see he had connections.
I very much enjoyed the very short chapters. As mentioned above, my reading time is sparse. Being able to grab the book and read one chapter in between activities, while waiting somewhere for something, really helped. The chapters were good breaks.
Despite what sounds like complaints above, I enjoyed the story. It moved along well. Paolini does have a way with words and is quite descriptive. He used "show not tell" quite well. What follows now could contain spoilers as I voice some thoughts on the novel. Highlight if you wish to read them. It was sadly obvious from the introduction of the Twins that they were not on the Varden's side and they were the leaks/spies for Galbatorix. As for Murtagh, I am split as to if he was planted (which I am leaning toward based on his comment at the end about the Twins bravely fighting off a group of Urgals) or if he truly is Eragon's friend and was taken back to Galbatorix to be punished, which is what I would rather the case. I guess I will find out in the next book (which I'm placing on my wishlist.) I will be surprised if it does not turn out Selena was Murtagh's mother and Murtagh and Eragon are brothers.
This book is ready to return home to Spike or to move along if Spike wishes to extend this ring.

Arrived in Saturday's mail. I have a book to finish and then will be reading this one. Thanks Spike1972 for continuing this ring!
Took a little while for me to get into this but I did enjoy the book. Inspiration seemed to come from Tolken, but it was very much it's own book. Glad to have had the opportunity to read it.
Received in the mail - will get started reading it!
I had trouble getting into this book at first, but now i'm hooked!!! I'm ready to send to the next person and will be contacting them for their address.
I got no response from meddyg and have emailed the person after her for their address.
Arrived safely this morning. Next up on the list to read
I was totally hooked by this book and I can't wait to read the follow on.
I have e mailed meddyg to see if he still wants to read the book as the previous sender had not been able to make contact. If not I will pass on to RonOren in the next couple of days
11.02.07 Have PM'd RonOren for his address as no reply from Meddyg

Just arrived. I'm reading two rings at the moment, so it'll have to wait until I finished one of them. But that shouldn't take more than a day or two; I'm certainly looking forward to start on this one!
I thought it was quite an enjoyable book. Of course, there's the obvious storyline of every fantasy-book, and I could see a lot of influences, but that doesn't detract to the book itself. What I liked most was how both Eragon and Saphira are both still "hatchlings". It's a bit like the later Harry Potter books: there's the storyline itself, with all kinds of adventures, but there's also the "normal" problems of growing up.
I was a bit suprised at the ending of the book (let's see if I can say this without giving away too much for future readers). I wasn't exactly surprised at what happened at the end of the book (mind you: the end of Eragon, not the beginning of Eldest!), but I expected this to happen a lot later in the story. Oh well, shows you what I know of fantasy ;-).
This was certainly a good, enjoyable read. I do have to say, it didn't get me on fire enough to scourge the site for Eldest, but if I do bump into it, I will want to read it :-). So, thanks for sharing this, Spike!
I'll get in touch with Rillaith and get the book moving soon.

I finally got this book moving again. Rillaith didn't have the time for this at the moment and -DAN09- proved impossible to reach, so the book is going to ariuca now. Sorry for the delay!
Just arrived!!! Thanks a lot for sharing Spike1972, and for sending it, RonOren.
Finally read. I apologize for taking so much time to read it. I tried and tried to get into the story and I finally read all the book, but it was not definitely my piece of cake.
Thanks Spike1972 for giving the chance to read it and RonOren for sending it.
I've just contacted palomikus to get his/her address to send the book.

I've just contacted palomikus to get his/her address to send the book.
palomikus never answered, so I've just realized other people joined and I've just contacted DitteL to have his/her address and mail the book to continue the bookring.
April 09:
Dittel had already read the book so I contacted frangelle, who is next, for the address to send the book.
June 09:
frangelle doesn't answer back :-/

The book arrived home safely this morning. Thank you to everyone who's taken part in the ring and looked after it.
