Since the age of eleven, when he saw the white men murder his father, the Redc Indian Lolla-Wossiky has been a pathetic drunk. His brother, Ta-Kumsaw wishes to see whites confined to the eastern lands. But Governor Bill Harrison of the rough frontier town of Carthage has far more brutal plans for the Indians.

Whe he puts those plans into action, he unwittingly brings young Alvin Miller - a very special white boy - to Lolla-Wossiky and Ta-Kumsaw. And so begins the next stage of Alvin's education...

The books have arrived - my very first Ring - I can't wait to start reading them (after the Minette Walters I got from scotsbookie).

ThE Red Prophet was another good read, though before now I've always avoided about about Native Americans as I'm so damned sensitive and it's a painful subject to read about and this book is no exception. Having said that it is not exclusively about Native Americans, and there are a lot of the mystical elements that I love.

Arrived today. Thanks!

I enjoyed reading this, and am loking forward to book 3.

Now this one, I didn't find as compelling as the first in the series. I found the alternative history of the native Americans confusing and hard to read, possibly because I don't know enough about the actual history. Nevertheless it has prompted me to find out more which is always a good thing!

I will be sending this on to Rillaith tomorrow when the post office opens.

Journal Entry 10 by Rillaith from Wokingham, Berkshire United Kingdom on Friday, May 12, 2006
Arrived this morning, safe and sound, with books 1 and 3.

I liked this book just as much as the other two, despite expecting not to like it as much. Un-put-downable, and as a result, there are more books on my wishlist!

Will be posting these to celticstar, probably tomorrow.

Received this morning along with Book 1 & Book 3 in the series

I finished reading this a couple of days ago. I found it a bit slow in the beginning compared with the first book but I enjoyed it just as much.

I will pass it on to Oddballdave to read, then post on to justifier.

A little slow to start, I wondered if OSC had decided that this was to be a huge epic and had so many words to produce that he could ignore pace and development, then the story picked up about a quarter of the way in, growing faster by the chapter until I felt the ending was a little rushed. A good read and I now want to see what happens to Alvin in the third book.

Will pass back to Celticstar to continue around the ring

Thanks Teachie - what a lovely surprise! I haven't read a good fantasy epic in a looooong time now so I'm looking forward to this :)

Wow - I loved the change in perspective and the continuing tale of Alvin Junior... Really enjoyable - now I just have to track down the rest of the series... Thanks for sending this to me, Teachie!
