What a great day. I think it is enough just to have gotten together with ottawabill and some other BCers for brunch on this beautiful, happy, festive weekend - but to get a book that I have been wanting to read for so long as well - that is a definite bonus.
Thanks very much Bill for bringing this for me. It was great to see you again and I look forward to the next time.

I had high expectations for this book and I wasn't disappointed.
Set in the London area in the last quarter of the 20th century, this story is about the meeting and mixing of cultures, customs, religions, ages, sexes, ideas and more.
Bottom line - everyone wants to feel they fit in and belong somewhere.
Smith is subtle, she makes her points smoothly and quietly.
"You must live your life with the full knowledge that your actions will remain."
*Thank you ottawabill for this. Let me know if you think you might like to read it now and I'll save it for you.
Nov 5/05 - CatherineCanoe is kindly taking this to the Ottawa BCers meetup for me - so it finds its way back to Ottawa. Thank you.

Penhaligon asked me to take this to Ottawa to release at the meetup. However, reading the book cover, I would really like to read it. One more for the TBR shelf!
I´ve taken it with me to Guatemala and will release it now. Sorry for taking it so far from it´s home... in case others wanted to read it.

I also had high expectations for this book, and was impressed. I had heard the author interviewed recently when On Beauty was released.I thought that there was a good balance, in White Teeth, between making the characters sympathetic in some cases, and characatures(sp?)in others- which I found to be used as quite biting criticism. Enjoy!
