A Walk in the Woods
3 journalers for this copy...
The first time i heard about Bill Bryson was when a dear friend was staying at my house because she broke her arm. She was sitting on the sofa, sad&sedated, & was giggling out loud over a book she was reading. That book was Mother tongue, Bill Bryson writing about the English language.
That title is still sitting on my shelf, being a 'ballycumber' (so i have learned recently.... ;-) - not because it isn't fun but somehow i got distracted.
A few weeks ago i found A walk in the woods in the Weggeefwinkel, in English 'give-away-shop'. This is a new & wonderfull initiative in our lovely town, a shop without cash-register, all things for free. It's quite like bookcrossing - all about sharing!
So i took Bill Bryson home, and enjoyed it greatly. It's about him hiking the Appalachian Trail, a 2000+ mile walk through America's wilderness, in the company of an overweight grumpy ex-alcoholic called Katz. Hilarious funny! I'm not very much the outdoor-kind-of-girl (usually prefer to read about it), but still... maybe... someday...
What is happening in this woods is horrible, of course. Pollution, road-building, poisenous funghi & diseases are killing the trees, while humans are doing quite well finishing of the wildlife. Is you are an-outdoor-kind-of-person & want to go and see for yourself, i suggest you don't wait too long. And read this book first!

I really liked this book. many times while readin, I was laughing out loud. Read it during a hiking and camping weekend in the Taunus, Germany. and reading this book made my weekend more adventurous. I know that there are no bears, no snakes there.... but the way Bryson describes them made me shivering in my tent... thanks again Niana for sending this book to me!

Got the book from Elefteria, and took it on a trip to Macedonia (where I am writing this now). Read it like a breeze - highly recommendable!
I will probably release it again in Frankfurt am Main, as my experience with releasing books in Skopje is not that promising.
And it's a book that should be read!

I wanted to release it in Frankfurt, but I now sent it to a friend of mine in Nijmegen (NL).
