"Christopher is an intelligent youth who lives in the functional hinterland of autism--every day is an investigation for him because of all the aspects of human life that he does not quite get. When the dog next door is killed with a garden fork, Christopher becomes quietly persistent in his desire to find out what has happened and tugs away at the world around him until a lot of secrets unravel messily." (from amazon.co.uk)
I thought this was a good attempt at showing how it might feel to have autism, but not really worth all the praise showered on it

I have not given a 10/10 rating for any book thus far on BC... but this is a MASTERPIECE. Simple as that. A brilliantly written, brilliantly told, brilliantly imagined piece of work which is funny, sad, happy, moving, and fully deserves the praise that has been heaped on it. This is not the sort of thing I would normally read, but I am so glad I did. Christopher is such a memorable narrator... you just want to give him a cuddle... except of course you can't. (If you haven't read the book, you won't get that last comment. Shame on you. Go read it. Now. NOW.)
This is being passed on to Nic in Hull BC Group to read next, as I felt guilty that I got it before her. So she's next.

This will be passed on to Lioness at tonight's Hull BC meet.
I've been wanting to read this one for a while after all the people who have been talking about it, so I was pleased to pick this up at the Hull BookCrossing meet. It will be added to my TBR mountain range for future reading.
I loved reading this book and found it definitely worth the praise it has been given. This insight into a autistic child's thoughts and actions made me realise just how frustrating it must be to the children and the parents who are affected by autism. To know that the child is smart, but that people just misunderstand because they are different.
Definitely recommended reading and I passed this on at the September Hull Book Crossing meet.
