An expansive tale of a middle class New York Jewish girl seeking fame on Broadway in the 1930s.
Wouk takes the time to explore all of the major life issues of being 20-something: love, marriage, friendship, familial tensions, ambition, delusion, disappointment, courage, perseverance, gaining wisdom.
I applauded the denouement. Wouk keeps the reader guessing right up to the last 20 pages of a long (perhaps a touch overlong) novel of 560 pages. But I won't spoil it by discussing the outcome here.
This is a hugely enjoyable, often profound novel.

It is past time for this to be out in the world, so it is going to a friend who will donate it as a fund-raiser.
