Ze chzy Brogocia proztfik!

I've got a hardcover copy of Monstrous Regiment in my absolutely-never-to-be-released-completely-permanent collection, but when I saw this paperback copy on the half-price table in Whitcoulls last Saturday, I couldn't resist the chance to bookcross an author I really love. And of course, before I could register it, I just had to re-read it... (any excuse!)

The tiny country of Borogravia is at war. In fact, Borogravia is always at war with one neighbour or another. And it's starting to run out of young men. Polly Perks wants to find out what happened to one particular young man, her brother, so she dresses as a boy and enlists in the army. Of course, this being Terry Pratchett, you know that's going to lead to loads of funny moments, plenty of clever allusions, a few excruciating puns, and generally a great read, but there's also some really powerful stuff hiding in there about the nature of war, and why it happens (basically, it all comes down to socks).

Reserved for release at the NZBC Convention.

I scored this book in my convention treat bag, but as I'm not really a Pratchett fan (sorry, that's just the way it is, I have tried, and I'm told they're great books, but they just don't DO it for me), I'll pop this in the post to Chchdangermouse.

Oh and yes, thanks Futurecat, I had a great convention.

Never did post this, so I've hand delivered it to the little cousin instead. I'm sure that she will enjoy it then set it on its merry way in PNorth.
