Bought to release. However, having just read reviews of it on Amazon I may have to read it first. It's been given 5 out of 5 by the 6 people who have commented on it so far and it sounds absolutely wonderful.

Didn't get round to it, so rather than have it staring at me mournfully from the shelf I've decided to send it travelling as part of JeepACV's bookbox.

Think I'll give this one a whirl!

This book is in quite a delicate condition so needs to be cherished - I was reading it very carefully for fear of any pages coming adrift which, thankfully, they haven't.

The stories are short but intricate, a blend of reality, fantasy and otherworldiness. The characters weave throughout the stories, a couple of them hold all the others in a common bond. All the characters are special and one or two are endowed with magic or have some special power. There is a righting of wrongs in some of these stories and a caution that executing justice does carry a burden. The imagery is beautiful.

Thank you platypussj. I was just thinking about this book today and then it arrived :)

I'm going to let my husband read the book first because I need to read two books that are due to another bookcrosser in about a week or so.

There's something about the way de Lint writes. I love the way all his short stories link together and still they all tell a very tight story.

It took me a while to realize that his writings are not too happy. Even he's happy endings tend to be more sad or melancholic tan pure happy. It's like in his world things are mostly bad and just occasionally OK. That's kind of depressing and that's also why I needed a whole week to read this book. I couldn't read more than a couple of stories per day.

I had intended to wild release this but haven't yet gotten round to doing so.

And last night I had the strangest of dreams, a Bookcrossing dream:
That I had lovingly restored the loose pages following some unusual technique, so that the repairs did not show and the book once again became as new. Of course in my waking state I don' recall how I managed this in the dream! There was some secret, but it was really simple.
Anyway, after fixing it up, I released the book. Then I heard from the person who caught it, and we eventually met in RL. We began a special relationship, all because of this book...

(The things one dreams of!)
