The Light Years (Cazalet Chronicle S.)

A wonderfully dark and hypnotic family saga which takes place in the years before the Second World War, this novel follows the fate of the Cazalet family, cousins, friends and servants over two summers in Sussex.
With a strong autobiographical influence, Howard has provided us with a vivid and evocative picture of the concerns of the wealthy middle classes. It is full of life and extremely amusing. As it is seen through the eyes of both children and adults it is a well rounded and compelling piece of fiction.
It's one of those books that once you've put it down, you're desperate for the next volume. Thankfully, there are three more in the series for me to get stuck into!
