Early in 2004, two writers and Red Sox fans, Stewart O'Nan and Stephen King, decided to chronicle the upcoming season, one of the most hotly anticipated in baseball history. They would sit together at Fenway. They would exchange e-mails. They would write about the games. And, as it happened, they would witness not only the greatest comeback ever in sports, but the first Red Sox championship in 86 years as the team put '86 behind them and eighty-sixed the Curse.
A-Rod. Schilling. Sheffield. Foulke. The hot stove league was smoking. In April, the Sox took six of seven from the New York Yankees. They led their division through May, but June was a disaster. Then Nomar went to Chicago, Varitek shoved A-Rod, Billy Mueller proved to be a Yankee killer, and this team never looked back, logging an astounding August and a solid September to claim the wild card. In the playoffs they killed the Angels, then ran into those damn Yankees. Who saved the pennant race? David Ortiz. Who hit the only grand slam? Johnny Damon. Who's your daddy? Papi is. Down three games to none, down to their last three outs, the Red Sox rose from the dead to make history. Nothing left to do but sweep up. What began as a Sox-filled summer like any other is now a fan's notes for the ages.

I received this audiobook today in the mail. Thanks to Kitten22 for the bookring. I will begin listening immediately and will post a review ASAP.
As a baseball fan, I of course knew about the legendary curse of the Bambino, etc., etc. that has plagued the Sox since they won the World Series in 1918. However, as a born and bred Southerner, I didn't pay much attention to the Red Sox last year until the post season. It was a pleasure to see such a hard luck ball club swing the most stunning, improbable comeback in the history of American professional sports, and it was a pleasure to experience it all again with this book. This is the first thing I have ever read by Stewart O'Nan (I am a Stephen King veteran) and it was masterfully written. At the birth of a new baseball season, it brought all of the glory of last year's drama back with a vengance. Go Red Sox.
Thanks to Kitten22 for this bookring. I will be sending this book to GRAN-DUCATO in Chile on Monday.

I just got it, on monday 25th, I already listen the first CD. It brings a lot of memories to me. I went to Boston (Needham) in 1999 and I went to Fenway Park to a game against Toronto (In october 22nd, I still keep the tickets). I become a Red Sox fan (even though baseball almost doens´t exist in my country) because I fell in love with to city and its people. I almost got the divorce because when David Ortiz hit that homerun that kept us alive in the fourth game I started to shout and jump as a mad man. Thanks for sending it to me Alanfoxboro. I hope to listen it soon to pass it along.
Even though It brougth a lot of memories of my time in Boston I´ve listened the book and I´m a bit dissapointed about it. I didn´t expect to hear a different kind of story, but I thought it would be more exciting. It seems like if the "writters" didn´t enjoy the championship. And also I had troubles with some Cds. They have audio problems. Thanks anyway, that is the spirit of bookcrossing, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I´m expecting to sundremy2 sent me his/her address to pass it along. Well sundreamy2 skipped it so, is your turn tobisrus. I sent it today, saturday 14th in its way to Massachussetts.
Yeah! This arrived in the mail yesterday. I look forward to re-living last year's race to the World Series, especially since my beloved Red Sox aren't looking as solid this year.
