The Jane Austen Book Club
6 journalers for this copy...
In California's Sacramento Valley, six people meet once a month to discuss Jane Austen's novels. They are ordinary people, neither happy nor unhappy, but all wounded in different ways, all mixed up about their lives and their relationships. Over the six months they meet marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable, and under the guiding eye of Jane Austen, some of them even fall in love.
I particularly like the quote from Alice Sebold (The Lovely Bones) on the cover: "If I could eat this novel, I would."

I enjoyed this very much. It's very readable and Jane Austen fans will take particular delight in it - the characters do not spend their entire time talking about Jane Austen novels, but Austen's themes run as an undercurrent throughout the novel.
I understand Sebold's quote - if this novel were food, it would be tea with homemade carrot cake or perhaps scones and jam.
I'm offering this up as a bookring (UK only as it's hardback and I want to maximise my chances of getting it back). PM me if you're interested.

This arrived today. It was very well timed as I have just finished my last book ring! So this is next to be read.
I'm about a third of the way through this book; my heavy work schedule has slowed my reading down! - Just about to PM Fire-Dragon for the address of who is next on the bookring list, as I hope to finish the book in the next week or so.
Just PM'ed Drutt, who is next for this ring for his/her postal address.
I did enjoy this book, it took me a few pages to get into it, but once I did I was off.....I would certainly recommend this book.
I've received Drutt's postal address, and this will be on its way to Scotland on Monday 4th April.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this book Fire-Dragon - I'm looking forward to reading it. Will start on it shortly.
I wish I had been more familiar with Jane Austen's books, as I'm sure it would have improved my enjoyment of this book. I liked it, and it started promisingly, but I never really warmed to the characters who, by the end of the book, didn't yet seem 3-dimensional. I could only say that this was a nice read, which has inspired me to go read all of Jane Austen's books.
The book's now on its way back to Fire-Dragon.

After a whirlwind tour of the UK, this book has arrived back at the dragon's lair safe and sound. I'm happy to lend it out so if you're interested in reading it, let me know.

Picked up at last night's meet up. It was, unfortunately left at the end and rather than leave it on the bookshelf downstairs I decided to take it home myself as liked the look of it. I haven't read any of Jane Austen's books so will be interesting to see how I get on.

Picked this up at the meet-up at the Barley Mow earlier today. I'm a huge fan of Jane Austen (and one of those many people who think that Pride and Prejudice is the finest novel they've read), so the links with Jane Austen meant that I couldn't resist this one.

Off in the post to a fellow bookmoocher in Portugal.
And I received it through Bookmooch from who I suspect was the original Portuguese bookmoocher it was sent to in March. :) This one has traveled a bit, I see. I hope to get it moving again once I read it.
