The really interesting thing about urban myths (or urban legends, or foaftales, or whatever you want to call them) is not the myths themselves, but the stuff around them: What is it about certain stories that appeal to us so much that we keep them circulating? Where do the stories come from, and how do they evolve as they are retold? How has the internet changed the phenomena of urban mythology?
When I picked up this book, I was hoping that the stories would be accompanied by at least a little commentary on those sorts of questions, but unfortunately, it was just a random collection of jokes and stories (not all of which, incidentally, I would classify as true urban legends) that was probably compiled after about half an hours' work trawling the internet. Mildly entertaining to flick through for about 5 minutes, but the same amount of time spent at snopes is a lot more rewarding.

Caught at the Meetup last month. I enjoyed it as the very short anecdotes were variously funny and sad. Nothing beats laughing at outragous tales before going to bed. Could be a perfect book for the toilet also. Some people are just so silly sometimes. I recon that about half of these tales could be true, some are just impossible.
