I put it under "Literature and Fiction" because there isn't a book category for self-indulgent, poorly written, badly edited crap.

Did I mention I didn't like this book?

I have read Shiver and wasn't entirely thrilled. I shall be interested to see how Gemmel fairs this time around, particularly since it is supposed to be written in second person.

Journal Entry 4 by Calissa from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Sunday, June 26, 2005
Well where to begin? I found the use of second person to be quite jarring at times, although it occasionally gave me the impression that I was somehow talking to myself, which was perhaps the intended effect. I found the characters to be quite shallow and not very well developed. There was very little I could relate to, as it took a view on sex and relationships entirely alien to my own. Are there really people out there that think like this?
At it's core I think it was a novel about finding yourself, but if that's the case, I certainly wouldn't go about finding myself in this way. I also found the narrator's apparent disappearence to be totally unnecessary and a clumsy attempt at creating suspense, perhaps to make up for the slow pace of the rest of the story.

To be sent on as a RABCK for Senna1. I hope she likes it more than I did.

Received this during the week. Sorry I didn't log it before. Can't wait to read this one. Isn't it funny how Peggysmum's books always seem to find their way to me - you fulfill my wishes, sometimes without even meaning to!! Thanks for sending it Calissa.

Well, I'm not sure where to start. The novel is quite graphic to say the least - well compared to the novels I have been reading lately! I too was put off by the use of second person but after a couple of chapters I got used to it. This book often left me with my mouth hanging open and I'm not sure if I actually liked it. I'm still trying to decide (a week after finishing it). Hmmm...not sure what else I can say as the book perplexed me. I do agree however that the 'missing person' 'storyline' was unneccessary to say the least. Hmm....
I will pass this onto a friend of mine. I think she might like the graphic nature of the book as she likes things that attempt to shock...let's see what she thinks!
