This novel centres on G, who seems impervious to everything around him. His interests are purely sexual, his crowning ideal fulfilment. Yet, in the end this is enough for the politics of desire to expose the criminal politics of oppression.

Not my kind of book! I did read it to the end though but fail to see what point the author was making. It was sort of interesting in places though -the WW1 scenes towards the end and the character of Nusa for example.
Sometimes I wonder what criteria it takes for a book to win a Booker Prize. Once again I hope everyone else who reads this enjoys it more than I have.

This book has been offered as a bookray for For Tantan's Booker Prize project.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Posted to fushmush on Monday morning. Hope you enjoy it!

Journal Entry 4 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, March 20, 2005
Received sometime last week. As is always the way, I've had 5 million bookrays arrive at once. I will concentrate on bookrays for a while; should be read soonish!

Journal Entry 5 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Monday, May 23, 2005
I made a commitment to myself that I would read all the Booker books from start to finish. So, when I was ready to give up on this one, I made myself continue to the bitter end. Sorry to disappoint you Boreal, but I can't say I enjoyed it. It was well written and there were interesting bits but I fail to see what it was all about. The interjections from the author were very strange too. Am I being particularly thick?

I did like this simile:
"He gesticulates rigidly with his large hands, as if they were wooden doors opening and shutting to let his words out and to prevent anybody else's ever entering into the home of his arguement."

I will send this and Staying On to MeganH today. She was quietly boasting yesterday that she had no more TBR Booker bookrings on her pile. I'll soon change that!

Journal Entry 6 by wingmeganhwing from Preston, Victoria Australia on Thursday, May 26, 2005
Well, look what comes of boasting - no sooner do I clear the decks of Booker books and along comes another shipload! Not good reviews so far from you two, and I have made myself a promise that I am not going to read books just for the sake of it anymore so this will be interesting to see if I finish it.
Stay tuned!

Journal Entry 7 by wingmeganhwing from Preston, Victoria Australia on Wednesday, August 3, 2005
I have given a very low rating for this book. It joined my list of (2) books not finished since I joined bookcrossing (as an aside the other was The Ancient Future - I think you had similar opinions on that one fushmush).
I struggled as far as page 109 (when the first explicit sex description appeared). I am not a prude, but saw no reason to continue the book which had limped along until then.
I am bundling this up with Staying On (which I really enjoyed!) and sending off to tantan today. Maybe she will enjoy it!

Journal Entry 8 by tantan from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Thursday, August 11, 2005
Received today from meganh. For some reason I don't think I'm going to enjoy this... I'm not sure why...?!? :-)

Journal Entry 9 by tantan from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Sunday, January 1, 2006
Well I've had it awhile, but I'm finally going to start this book. Will post some thoughts once I get started...

Journal Entry 10 by tantan from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Tuesday, January 10, 2006
I will be absolutely astounded if anyone on this bookring actually enjoys this book! Was there any point at all? Was there even a story? How did it win the Booker Prize? Admittedly there have been one or two winners so far that I have not particularly enjoyed so far, but this...? I will say no more...

Heading off to peggysmum next.

Journal Entry 11 by tantan from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Thursday, January 12, 2006
Posted to peggysmum today.

Journal Entry 12 by peggysmum from Kambah, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Monday, January 16, 2006
The postie arrived early this morning grumbling about the number of parcels I receive in general, and today in particular. You can see his point - 2 separate RABCKs, 2 ring books and an ebay parcel (not books, but bulky).

Thanks for this one. I've got leave in a fortnight and will save it for then.

As some young friends of mine say - OMFG.

This was like wading through mud. I made it to page 54 before giving up. So much of it's time and I REALLY hate it when authors eschew punctuation for speech and consistent tense.
