I decided to get another copy of Magical Thinking after reading it earlier and then finding this copy on sale locally.

The book makes more sense to me now that I also followed it with Burroughs' other novel and memoirs Sellervision, Dry, and Running with Scissors.

What I originally thought to be an insane collection of "been there done that" stories turn out to be partially or totally true tales fomr his own life that fill in the blank spots in his earlier memoirs.

This guy had one weird life.

But I argue now against reading this before you read the others. Once you have read this you will have too many of the big details about his earlier life to fully appreciate how weird it was when you read Running with Scissors and Dry. Read them first and in that order and then read this one.

Magical Thinking has good humour and touching moments of romance as well as some of those embarassing self-recognition moments when you've wanted to do the same thing. It is a good read and I thnk the best of the four works.

It will be interesting to see where he goes form here as I think he has mined his unusual life to date tot he fullest and will need to find a new channel if he is to retain his readers. But it would not surprise me to find he goes off in a new direction completely based on the unusual ay things have unfolded for him so far.

I have marked this coipy as reserved because i am unusre what I will do witht he Burroughs books but am open to requests.
