The Alienist

I was anxiously awaiting this book, and it did not disappoint! I always enjoy a good crime story/mystery, and this one fit the bill. The historical aspects of New York in the 1890s were very well-researched. The action was nearly non-stop, and the characters were truly fascinating and deep. However, I felt that things were wrapped up rather quickly, and it was somewhat muddled in the very end. Overall, a wonderful read... I read the 594 pages in 3 days! Could not put it down.
Sending this one to MissQ in New Brunswick--Enjoy!
Got this in the mail a couple of days ago. Thanks Seferim! This is promised to cestmoi.

Another book from my wishlist, procured thru MissQ's scheming :) Just kidding, I'm very appreciative!!! I'll journal again when I've read it.
I've tried several times to "get into" this book but its just not holding my interest. I think I'm going to put it into the back of a bookshelf and forget about it for a bit. Maybe the next time I pick it up I'll be ready to read it.
I say that because it has all the elements that I should love..mystery, history, intrigue...I'm not sure what is preventing me from getting lost in the story - so I'm willing to try again sometime.
Thanks to Seferim and MissQ for setting this book up for me.

I wanted so much to enjoy this book - history and mystery and all the things I enjoy, but I just found it went on and on and on and on....and never seemed to say anything. I gave up about 1/3 of the way thru. I know lots of people have enjoyed it..so lets hope it finds its way to one at the meetup!

This is a more-than-decent novel. If you like historical fiction, this will likely interest you. The author seems to have done his homework on this one as 19th century New York comes alive in the book. Available for release.
