From amazon.co.uk:

Vintage Stuff is a hilarious classic from the best-selling writer, Tom Sharpe.
When Peregrine Clyde-Brown is sent to Groxbourne school by his father, he is in a for a surprise. Peregrine does very well at his new army training school but Peregrines problem is not his forever failing O-levels or his brutal dad's threats but the fact that Peregrine takes everything literally. When Mr Glodstone tells Perry about fantasy adventures in distant countries, Perry is enthralled and when Glodstone starts receiving letters from a mysterious "damsel in distress", Peregrine and Old Gloddie set of on what seems to be the biggest task of them all. But will everything end so happily ever after?

I think I asked for this book for Mr Mave several years ago, however it appears it never was journaled when I received it. Oops.
Belated thanks to servalan.
I took it with me to the Uncanvention in Canberra in November 2112.

Released 11 yrs ago (11/15/2012 UTC) at Taze Mediterranean Cuisine in Civic, Australian Capital Territory Australia

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I released this onto a chair outside this cafe on Genge Street on a sunny Saturday afternoon. They were preparing for the evening shift and chairs and tables were already set up for alfresco dining.
Nothing suspicious about a girl putting down her bag to re-arrange shopping and then wandering off again...is there?

[I'd tried to leave it at Gus's cafe but an over attentive waiter ran after me to give me my 'forgotten' book.
First.
Time.
Ever!
I didn't know what to say except Oh thanks :)
Shows I am out of practice with the ol' cloak n dagger, eh. ]
