I Am the Cat, Don't Forget That : Feline Expressions (BOOKRING)
12 journalers for this copy...
I received this book as a gift, but would like to share it with some of my fellow Bookcrossing cat lovers before placing it in my permanent collection (since it was a gift from hubby). So I'll be starting a Bookring.
It's a hardcover, 104 pages filled with delightful black & white cat photos, and each cat is accompanied by short poems or statements, some in Haiku. Even if you don't like the poems, the pictures are worth looking at by themselves.
It's a very fast read; you can easily go through it in less than an hour, but pausing to savor the photos might take a wee bit longer ;)
Here's one to give you an idea:
Have you ever seen anything whiter than me?
I am as white as a being can be.
And fluffy, am I? And beautiful? Very.
And by the way I just ate the canary.
And another (because I can't resist):
I'll get
There how
I get there, when
I
Do. Felines don't
Make
Bee-lines.

What a great book! Having three cats who live with me, both the pictures and text were so true. The only thing missing was a picture of a cat curled in a very small place, eg a box, basket or bag (a standard at least here). Vaterie Shaff's pictures are great, she must have great patience or extreme luck in taking her cat pictures.
I will send on to mysteryfan03 on Monday. Enjoy, enjoy!!!!!

Got this in the mail yesterday! It looks great! I have a book in front of it and then will get to this one! Thanks
Well, mom and us cats read this book today on her lunch hour! I loved all the black and white pics, how classy (I am a cow cat myself). What wonderful poetry and ramblings from these cats! I was dismayed that a few dogs got in the pictures, but mom thinks they are cute with the cats (she can be a little weird sometimes)
This was a delightful book and mom will soon be sending it on to another lucky cat and/or cat lover!

The book was a great idea, but none of the cats are as regal and beautiful as ME! --Sylvia

Perfect timing! It's a dreary, rainy day, and a lousy day at work. Bundled up in a fleece blanket on the sofa, looking at adorable kitties!
Thanks Pyan for having this ring.

So cute! Read it with my husband while fixing dinner last night. Though some of the little bits of poetry don't always work, this is a gem of a book for the black & white pictures alone! On its way to Shaunesay next.
P.S. Now of course I want a kitty more than ever. Wait until we get a house first? Uhm... why again?

Just received today and have already stopped on some random pages, this looks fun! I will peruse for a bit and then move it along, thanks for the ring Pyan!
The book just now came in the mail (glad I was home early; the mailman stuck it in a precarious place on my balcony). I've never seen such hilarious feline faces! I looked at a half-dozen or so and laughed out loud at "Jeez! My stalker."
The photos were excellent. I have the book *Bad Cat* by Jim Edgar, and Valerie Shaff's pictures here were even better because all of the cats were natural -- i.e., not dressed up in sunglasses or hats.
I've seen three photos recently of sexy cats lounging in provocative poses, (one in *Bad Cats* -- captioned, "Got a light, sailor?", one as an avatar on bookrelay.com, and one here) and the one in this book takes the prize! See page 37.
My other favorite photos were the upside-down face that opened the book on page 3; and "Fang" on page 13.
Roy Blount, Jr.'s introduction was droll and enjoyable to read. He referred to his childhood pets as "free range". He shocked me when he said he wouldn't want to see Mencken, a stray he adopted, in the hereafter.
Be sure to read about the buttered kittens! (pages viii-ix) And don't miss Blount's detailed explanation of why Mencken typed:
Gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
when she was allowed to use the keyboard.
And don't forget Pepe, who ruined a BOOK!
Loved it, Pyan, thanks for sharing with all of us.
Mailing to spazcat as soon as I can s-q-u-e-e-z-e it into the envelope.

Received this about half a hour ago and can tell it's a book I'm going to have to buy for myself. Can't wait to read it tonight!
Pyan, I loved this book---thanks so much for sharing it!!! My favorites were on pages 55, 65, 71 and 85. I realize I'm prejudiced when it came down to "favorites"---all my favorites resembled my Spazzy. :) Book is on it's way to Tchouli---enjoy! >^.^<

This fun book arrived a couple of days ago and my baby-boy Tigger cannot get enough of its scent. That's him on the photo.
I will not be able to pass this book on to the next participant until after May 28, as she (DEESSE) is currently on holiday and will not be online.
Saturday, May 28, 2005
What an enjoyable book! My husband and I had fun reading it and admiring the beautiful photos. Our Tigger enjoyed sniffing and rubbing his little head against it, and not to mention, using it as a napping spot as mom was attempting to read.
I must confess, pages 26, 27 & 28 had me shedding a tear or two (see photo with next journal entry). I was reminded of my kitty's life before he adopted us and the lives of the countless animals that will never find a home:

Ah, the lives I've been through, The lofty and the mean. A slave girl made to dance...Then too, A gem-laden queen. The aches of passion and duty, The grand processions, the wars. It's all there if you look, the beauty Of course, and the scars. | Since you've come to the shelter, Surely you've felt a Need to free Me? |

This book was awaiting me on Sunday when I came back from a weekend Karate-course. What a nice surprise!
The other surprise, prepared by my cat Trognon: parts of my freshly planted flowers on the balcony torn to pieces on the floor... "... your flowers? Ours!"
I've leafed through it already but I'll keep it a little bit longer to read all the verses and the introduction properly.
Thanks so much, Pyan, for sharing this beautiful book with us and thanks everyone for sending it on!

Thank you Pyan for sharing this with us! Sorry for keeping it so long, but it was such a beautiful book! My boyfriend and I enjoyed every page of the book, we could very often see one of our two "tigers" "saying" exactly the same. (E.g. the poem with the candelabrum - feel free to replace "candelabrum" with any other word for things which can be knocked over, destroyed, eaten...! - I think everyone in this ring knows what I'm talking about!! But that's why we love them, isn't it?)
The story of the poem written by a cat on the computer-keyboard was very funny, too.
It'll travel on to Libertine101 in Australia next week.

Journal Entry 24 by libertine101 from Perth City, Western Australia Australia on Saturday, September 24, 2005
Lovely b/w photos of various kitties - from seniors to kittens. Indoor, outdoor, close ups, etc. Its all there. And there are some really great photos to enjoy.
There is also text to accompany the photos - usually a bit of poetry. Some of it fits the adjacent photograph well...some of it doesn't. *shrug*
All in all a nice book for us cat lovers.
*sigh* Is there an animal more beautiful than a cat?
No.
I have pmmed the next person in line and am awaiting their reply.
